Creation Together and the future!
Today, we've got a scheduled premiere of the 100th episode of Let's Talk Creation at 3pm Eastern time, so you might want to check that out. This episode is the recording of the Creation Together event from this past summer. As many of you know, Darrel Falk and I have been meeting together for more than a decade now trying to sort out our differences, and they are big differences. Darrel thinks God used evolution to create the world, and I think not. But we're both Christians, and when we're together, I do believe God blesses our efforts. You can read about part of our journey in our book The Fool and the Heretic. I've been interested in rekindling our efforts for a long time, and 2024 seemed like a good time to do it. I recruited some new faces to join our conversation, some of whom you might even recognize.
We spent two days privately talking and praying and reading scripture together, and then we held a time of public testimony at Trinity Chapel in Dayton, where Darrel and I spoke about our differences and the importance of being together in Christ. The room was packed that night (easily the biggest Core Academy event since covid), and the audience really responded to the message we presented.
We didn't solve anything in our private meetings. We barely got started with things we needed to say. There is so much more to unpack, but it was a new beginning and I'm grateful for that. We don't always have to be at each other's throats. We don't have to hide behind our keyboards and social media accounts and lob insults at each other. Jesus called us to love our neighbor, and he promised us that wherever people gather in his name, he would be there too. What we do is not easy, but it's far better than the alternative antagonism and division and ultimately our own destruction.
That said, I really hope these meetings continue in the future, but they are uncertain at the moment. I hate to bring up fundraising in a post like this, but you need to know. As they did for many ministries in the US this year, donations to Core Academy slowed down by about 15%. That left us with a sizable spending deficit this year, which we really need to make up. Thankfully, from today until Christmas, I'm happy to say we're running a challenge gift of $10,000! One of our generous donors has agreed to double all donations from today to the end of Christmas day, up to $10,000. If you have been thinking about contributing to Core Academy, this is definitely the week to do it. Please consider contributing to help us claim that full $10,000. Thank you for your support!
